Temperature Gauge Circuit Check

  1. Check Temperature Sending Unit

    Check temperature sending unit. See TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT  under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace if necessary. If temperature sending unit is okay, go to next step.

  2. Check Wire Harness For Open Or Short

    Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster and temperature sending unit harness connectors. Using DVOM, check Purple/White wire for continuity between terminal No. 31 (without tachometer) or terminal No. 43 (with tachometer) at appropriate instrument cluster harness connector and terminal No. 1 at temperature sending unit harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Continuity should be present. Check continuity of Purple/White wire between ground and terminal No. 31 (without tachometer) or terminal No. 43 (with tachometer) at appropriate instrument cluster harness connector. See Figure or Figure . Continuity should not be present. If continuity is as specified, temperature gauge circuit is okay. If continuity is not as specified, repair open or short in Purple/White wire.
