Description & Operation

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

The instrument cluster consists of a water temperature gauge, fuel gauge, electronic speedometer and an optional analog tachometer. All gauges are electronic. Warning lights are located below gauges. Speedometer receives a signal from Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), located on transmission. Tachometer (if equipped) receives a signal from Engine Control Module (ECM). Fuel and water temperature gauges receive variable resistance ground signals from temperature and fuel gauge sending units.
