Strong Fuel Odor From Evap Canister (Sentra 2.0L & 200SX 2.0L)

  1. Check EVAP purge line for cracks. Remove EVAP canister with EVAP canister vent control valve attached. Turn EVAP canister over and check for water leaking from EVAP canister vent control valve. If water is not leaking from valve, go to next step. If water is leaking from valve, weigh EVAP canister with valve attached. If canister is less than 4.0 lbs. (1.8 kg), go to next step. If canister is equal to or more than 4.0 lbs. (1.8 kg), replace EVAP canister and retest system.
  2. Drain and remove fuel tank. See procedures in REMOVE/INSTALL/OVERHAUL article. Check EVAP vapor cut valve. See EVAP VAPOR CUT VALVE . If operation is as specified, go to next step. If operation is not as specified, replace EVAP vapor cut valve with fuel tank.
  3. Check vacuum lines to refueling control valve. See VACUUM DIAGRAMS article. Check refueling control valve. See REFUELING CONTROL VALVE . If operation is not as specified, replace refueling control valve with fuel tank and retest system. If operation is as specified, check vacuum lines and connections for cracks or clogging and repair as necessary.
