Description & Operation

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

The instrument cluster consists of a water temperature gauge, fuel gauge and speedometer. Tachometer is standard on models equipped with 2.0L engine and optional on models equipped with 1.6L engine. All gauges are electronic. Warning lights are located on left and right sides of instrument cluster. Speedometer receives a signal from Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), located on transmission. Tachometer (if equipped) receives a signal from Engine Control Module (ECM). Fuel and water temperature gauges receive variable resistance ground signals from fuel and temperature gauge sending units.
