AUTHORIZATION
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. authorizes Nissan Motor Corporation. U.S.A. (NMC) to conduct a recall campaign on certain 1995 Nissan 4-wheel drive D2t Trucks.
INTRODUCTION
Some 1995 Nissan 4-wheel drive pickup trucks may have an improperly machined right front brake caliper. This may cause a brake fluid leak when the brakes are applied and eventually result in sufficient brake fluid loss to affect the braking performance which could result in an accident.
IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
94V-251 has been assigned as the identification number of this campaign. This number must appear on all communications and documentation dealing with this campaign.
NUMBER OF VEHICLES POTENTIALLY AFFECTED: Approximately 350.
DEALER RESPONSIBILITY
It is the dealer's responsibility to check each vehicle within the range of this campaign which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in dealer inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
SERVICE PROCEDURE OUTLINE
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Look through the holes in the right front road wheel (a flashlight may be required) and observe the assembly lot code stamped on the face of the caliper casting. If it is "4XF" or "4XH" go to step 2. If the lot code is other than "4XF" or "4XH", no further action is required; submit a warranty claim using Op. Code R4OO6l.
2. Remove the right front wheel and inspect the caliper casting lot code located on the top portion of the caliper. If that code is "49E", go to step 3. If it is other than "49E", reinstall the wheel (torque to 87-108 ft.lb. [118-147 Nm, 12-15 kg-m]) and no further action is required; submit a warranty claim for Op. Code R40063.
3. Replace the caliper assembly. Return the removed caliper to NMC Warranty Parts Return Center, 184555. Figueroa St., Gardena, CA 90248.
4. Bleed the caliper of any air and top oft the brake master cylinder fluid reservoir as necessary using "DOT 3" brake fluid.
5. Reinstall the wheel and torque to 87-108 ft.lb. (118-147 N-m, 12-15 kg-m). Submit a warranty claim for Op. Code R40065.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Nissan Motor Company, Ltd., has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1995 Nissan 4-wheel drive pickup trucks.
Reason For Recall
Some 1995 Nissan 4-wheel drive pickup trucks may have an improperly machined right front brake caliper. This may cause a brake fluid leak when the brakes are applied and eventually result in sufficient brake fluid loss to effect the braking performance, which could result in an accident.
What You Should Do
Contact your Nissan Dealer as soon as possible to arrange to have your Nissan Truck corrected free of charge. The correction will involve inspection of the right front brake caliper and replacement with a good caliper if the inspection determines the caliper is defective. The service should take less than one hour, but your dealer may require your vehicle for a longer period of time based on his work schedule.
In the meantime, should you notice a change in the braking performance of your vehicle or if the brake warning light comes on, stop your truck as soon as it is safe to do so and call 1-800-225-2476 to arrange to have it towed to the Nissan dealer nearest to you at no charge.
