VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN
1995 TRUCK DOOR LOCK INSPECTION

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION NO.: 94V-243

APPLIED MODEL: 1995 Truck (D21)

INTRODUCTION

Nissan has determined that some 1995 D21 Trucks may have been assembled without a door lock plate in the right side door. If this plate is missing, there may be a slight reduction in the strength of the latch. It is estimated that 6% of the vehicles in this campaign were built without this plate.

Owners of affected Trucks will be notified by mail to return to their Nissan dealer to have the Truck inspected and repaired as necessary. A copy of the owner letter is shown in this bulletin.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Certain 1995 Nissan D21 Trucks produced between September 26 and October 6, 1994. Please use the Service-Comm system to verify the need for this campaign.

IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

94V-243 has been assigned as the identification number of this campaign. This number must appear on all communications and documentation dealing with this campaign.

NUMBER OF VEHICLES POTENTIALLY AFFECTED: Approximately 200 vehicles require inspection and 6% of the 200 may require lock plates.

DEALER RESPONSIBILITY

It is the dealer's responsibility to check each vehicle within the range of this campaign which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in dealer inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

INSPECTION

Check the right door latch (only) by opening the door and looking at the door latch where the striker contacts the door. There should be a thin piece (1/16") of gold cadmium sheet metal visible between the door and the door latch. (NOTE: The latch itself has a thick piece (1/8") of metal as part of the assembly which is also gold cadmium plated). If the 1/16" thick plate is present, no further action is necessary. If the plate is missing, proceed to step # 1 below.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the inner door trim finisher. Refer to page BF3O of the 1994 Service Manual for details on removing the arm rest and door trim finisher.

2. Peel the door vapor barrier half way oft of the door towards the front of the vehicle.

3. Roll the window all the way up.

4. Remove the lower bolt for the rear window sash.

5. Remove the 3 bolts for the door latch and discard. Gently pull the sash towards the front of the vehicle. This will allow clearance for the new plate.

6. Install the new plate. Use the 3 new bolts provided for the door lock.

7. Make sure the outside handle rod is in position on the door lock assembly.

8. Tighten the 3 bolts for the door lock to 5.1 - 6.5 (0.52 - 0.66, 3.8 - 4.8) N-m (kg-m, ft.lb.).

9. Install the lower bolt for the rear window sash and tighten. Check that the window runs up and down smoothly.

10. Check to make sure that all the door locking and opening functions operate correctly.

11. Seal the vapor barrier to the door and install door trim finisher.
