With Supplemental Restraint System
Fig. 7 Air Bag Module Replacement:
NOTE: Disarm Air Bag system before beginning repairs. Refer to Technician Safety Information for Procedures.
1. Place steering wheel in Neutral position.
2. Remove lower lid from steering wheel, then disconnect air bag module electrical connector, Fig. 7.
3. Remove side lids.
4. Using a T50H Torx bit, remove left and right special securing bolts.
5. Remove air bag module and observe the following precautions:
a. Always place air bag module with pad side facing upward.
b. Do not attempt to disassemble air bag module.
c. Special bolts are coated with a bonding agent. Discard after removal and replace.
d. If any portion of air bag module is damaged or cracked, replace module.
e. Do not allow oil, grease or water to come in contact with air bag module.
6. Set steering wheel to Neutral position, then disconnect horn electrical connector and remove steering wheel attaching nut.
7. Using puller tool No. J25726-A, or equivalent, remove steering wheel.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque steering wheel retaining nut to 22-29 ft. lbs.
b. Position air bag module and torque new bolts to 11-18 ft. lbs.
