Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation
EGR/Canister Control Solenoid Valve:
PURPOSE
Allows the Engine Control Module (ECM) to operate the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) /Canister Control Solenoid Valve.
OPERATION
The EGR/Canister Control Solenoid Valve has two modes: it is either ENERGIZED by the ECM and vents vacuum or it is DE-ENERGIZED and allows vacuum to pass to the Purge Control Valve on the Evaporative Canister.
The EGR/Canister Control Solenoid is ENERGIZED (vents vacuum) when:
^ Engine RPM is less than 800
^ Engine RPM is more than 5200
^ Engine coolant temperature is below 60° C (140° F)
^ Vehicle speed is less than 18 km/h (11 mph)
The EGR/Canister Control Solenoid is DE-ENERGIZED (allows vacuum) when:
^ Any other condition other than above.
