Valve Timing Control System

Valve Timing Control:

PURPOSE
The Valve Timing Control (VTC) system is utilized to increase engine performance.

OPERATION
The Engine Control Module (ECM) will vary the intake valve timing based on engine coolant temperature, engine speed, intake air volume, throttle position, gear position and vehicle speed.

VTC Advancement Curve:

The position (amount of advancement) of the intake cam is changed by internal oil pressure acting upon a piston/servo in the timing chain pulley.
