Water Pump: Service and Repair

Fig. 35 Water Pump Replacement:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Remove drive belts from compressor, power steering and alternator.
3. Remove water pump pulley, then the water pump, Fig. 35.
4. Clean any traces of liquid gasket from water pump and cylinder block mating surfaces.
5. Reverse procedure to install, applying liquid gasket to mating surface of pump housing.
6. Be sure to bleed cooling system, and check for leaks.
