Repair Procedure

REQUIRED MATERIALS:

Dealerships in California, Oregon, and Washington
3M Prep Solvent-70, P/N 051135-08983 (1/2 gallon)

Dealerships in the Other American States 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, P/N 051135-08984 [quart]
P/N 051135-08986 [5 gallon]

Disposable-type, 1/4" wide paint brushes; Clean, lint-free cloths

Permatex Clear Silicone Adhesive Sealant, P/N 66BR [3 oz.] or equivalent

INSPECTION PROCEDURE:

1. Some vehicles, within the Applied VIN Range, have previously been corrected at the Port Preparation Facility; therefore, it is important to inspect the vehicle before initiating the Repair Procedure.
2. Open the left front door and inspect the upper/door hinge:

* If sealant is present, it is not necessary to perform any other inspection or repair operations.

* If sealant is not present at the door hinge/body interface, proceed to WORK PROCEDURE, as appropriate for the 2-Door or 4-Door Model.

WORK PROCEDURE:

2-DOOR SENTRA

1. Open left (driver's) door.

2. For Dealerships in California, Oregon, and Washington, Pour a small quantity of 3M Prep Solvent-70 into a clean container. Use a disposable-type, 1/4" wide paint brush (approximately, one per vehicle) to apply the 3M Prep Solvent-70 around the upper and lower door hinges, where the hinge mates against the body. Dry thoroughly with compressed air and a lint-free cloth.

For Dealerships in the Other-American States, Pour a small quantity of 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner into a clean container. Use a disposable-type, 1/4" wide paint brush (approximately, one per vehicle) to apply the 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner around the upper and lower door hinges, where the hinge mates against the body. Dry thoroughly with compressed air and a lint-free cloth.

NOTE:
It is important to make certain that before proceding to Step 3, that the hinge/body mating surface is completely dry and free of grease, oil, or water.





3. Apply Permatex Clear Silicone Adhesive Sealant, P/N 66BR or equivalent, in an even bead around the top, trailing edge, and bottom of the upper and lower hinge/body mating surface (Figure 1). It is not necessary to seal the hinge to door mating surface.

NOTE:
It is not readily possible to seal the leading edge of the hinge/body mating area.

4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the right (passenger) upper and lower door hinges.

4-DOOR SENTRA

1. Repeat Steps 1, 1-4, for front door hinges.

2. Open left rear door.

3. Using the same cleaning materials and procedure specified for the 2-door Sentra model, clean the complete perimeter of the upper/lower hinge/body mating surfaces.





4. Apply Permatex Clear Silicone Adhesive Sealant, P/N 66BR or equivalent, in an even bead around the complete perimeter of the upper/lower hinge/body mating surface (Figure 2). It is not necessary to seal the hinge to door mating surface.

5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for the right rear upper/lower door hinges.
