Canister Purge Solenoid: Testing and Inspection
Test Number 1Disconnect Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) / Canister Control Solenoid Valve connector and check resistance between solenoid terminals.
Resistance: 30.0 to 40.0 Ohms @ 25°C (77°F)
Test Number 2
EGR/Canister Control Solenoid Valve Test:
1. Hook up battery power as shown in the image.
CAUTION: Pay attention to the polarity of the leads. The solenoid can be damaged if the polarity is reversed.
2. With power applied to terminals 1 & 2:
^ Vacuum SHOULD pass through ports A & B
^ Vacuum SHOULD NOT pass through ports A & C
3. With power removed from terminals 1 & 2:
^ Vacuum SHOULD NOT pass through ports A & B
^ Vacuum SHOULD pass through ports A & C
4. If the solenoid fails any part of the test, replace it.
