Brake Shoe Installation

NOTE: Always adjust the parking brake after replacing the brake shoes.

Exploded View:

1. Fit toggle lever to brake shoe with retainer clip.
2. Apply brake grease to the contact areas shown.

Brake Adjuster:

3. Shorten adjuster by rotating it.
- Pay attention to direction of adjuster.
- Left side - Left-hand thread
- Right side - Right-hand thread

4. Connect parking brake cable toggle lever.

5. Install all parts by referring to assembled view.

Brake Adjustment:

6. Adjust brake shoes
- Measure inner diameter of the drum and adjust so that shoe outer diameter at its center is smaller than drum inner diameter by 0.25 to 0.4 mm (0.0098 to 0.0157 in) by rotating the adjuster
- Then operate parking brake lever to adjust shoe clearance.
