Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair


DIFFERENTIAL SIDE OIL SEAL
1. Remove driveshafts as follows:
a. Remove wheel bearing locknut, then the disc brake caliper and position aside.
b. Remove tie-rod ball joint.
c. Separate driveshaft from knuckle by lightly tapping it. If it is difficult to remove, use a suitable puller.

d. Remove right driveshaft from transaxle by prying between transaxle case and inner CV housing with a suitable pry bar, Figures 8 & 9.

e. Remove left driveshaft from transaxle by driving shaft out from opposite side using a suitable tool, Fig. 10.

CAUTION: Do not damage pinion mate shaft and side gear.

2. Remove oil seals using seal puller tool No. ST33290001, or equivalent.
3. Apply ATF to oil seal surface, then install using drift tool No. KV31103000, or equivalent, for transaxle case side and tool No. ST35325000, or equivalent, for converter side.

4. Install oil seals so that dimension "A" and "B", Fig. 11, are within 0.217-0.256 inch for dimension "A" and 0.020 inch or less for dimension "B".

5. Install driveshafts as follows:
a. Set driveshaft installer tool No. KV38106700, or equivalent, along inner circumference of oil seal.
b. Insert driveshaft into transaxle ensuring serrations are properly aligned, then remove tool.
c. Push driveshaft, then press-fit circular clip on driveshaft into circular clip groove of side gear.
d. Ensure shaft is properly meshed with side gear by attempting to pull flange out of slide joint.
e. Install driveshaft into knuckle.
f. Install tie-rod ball joint, disc brake caliper and wheel bearing locknut and tighten as required.
