Basic Inspection Diagnostic Chart:

Always follow the flow charts from top to bottom and proceed to the indicated sections for component and/or circuit tests.
The test procedures provided throughout this section are designed so that the factory scan-tool, "CONSULT", can be used if available. If the tool is not available, the procedures will also allow full testing and diagnosis of components and circuits with the use of a DVOM and other basic tools. Some aftermarket scan-tools will access codes and provide a limited amount of diagnostic capabilities. Refer to the manufactures manual for hook-up and operation.
