Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

Fig. 4 Outer Engine Components:

1. Release fuel system pressure.
2. Remove timing belt as described under ``Timing Belt, Replace''.
3. Drain coolant from engine and radiator.
4. Separate automatic speed control and accelerator control cable from intake manifold collector, Fig. 4.
5. Remove the following from the intake manifold collector:
a. Harness connectors for IACV-AAC valve.
b. Throttle position sensor and throttle position switch.
c. Ignition coil and power transistor.
d. EGRC-solenoid valve and IACV-air regulator.
e. On California models, EGR temperature sensor.
f. On all models, water and heater hoses.
g. PCV hose and righthand rocker cover.
h. Vacuum hoses for canister, brake master cylinder and pressure regulator.
i. EGR tube, ground harness and air duct hose.
j. Mark all vacuum hoses and electrical connectors for installation reference.
6. Remove fuel feed and fuel return hoses from injector tube assembly.
7. Disconnect all injector harness connectors.
8. Remove injector fuel tube assembly.
9. Disconnect coolant temperature switch and thermal switch harness connectors.
10. Remove water hose from thermostat housing.

11. Using loosening sequence shown in Fig. 5, remove intake manifold.

12. Reverse procedure to install. Using sequence shown in Fig. 6, tighten intake manifold bolts as follows:
a. Torque all bolts to 2.2---3.6 ft. lbs.
b. Torque all nuts to 2.2---3.6 ft. lbs.
c. Torque all bolts an additional 12---14 ft. lbs.
d. Torque all nuts an additional 17---20 ft. lbs.
e. Torque all bolts an additional 12---14 ft. lbs.
f. Torque all nuts an additional 17---20 ft. lbs.
