SERVICE INFORMATION:





On some 1991 D21 vehicles, the driver's side (left) defroster grille assembly may be loose in the dash cavity. This incident is the result of the right hand metal retaining clip of the defroster grille assembly not engaging properly ( see illustration).





The right hand metal clip will not engage the metal portion of the dash cavity when the defroster grille assembly is pushed down. The metal "step" of the dash cavity is bent at an angle which prevents the proper retaining clip engagement. Therefore, the defroster grille assembly will not properly secure to the dashboard on the right hand side (see illustrations).


SERVICE PROCEDURE:





Using a tool, such as the one shown, bend the metal "step" approximately 1-2 mm in an upward direction. This slight adjustment to the "step" will allow the retaining clip to engage properly and the defroster grill to remain flush with the dashboard.
