An optional, heavy duty radiator is available for installation in the applied model D21 Trucks. The heavy duty radiator may be identified by its thicker core (32 mm thick as compared to the 16 mm thick core of the standard radiator). The installation of the heavy duty radiator will allow the towing capacity of the vehicle to be increased from 2,000 pounds to 3,500 pounds when combined with a heavy duty hitch. (The hitch capacity must also be rated at 3,500 pounds. See the 1988 Nissan Towing Guide for information.)

18. Stop the engine and check for coolant or A/T fluid leaks.
19. Install the front under cover (splash guard).
20. Allow the engine and cooling system to cool completely to room temperature. Open the air relief valve as shown in the following illustration (VG30 only). Fill the radiator to the top and the reservoir tank to the "MAX" level. Tighten the air relief valve.
21. Run the engine until it reaches operating temperature.
22. Check once more for fluid leakage at hoses and drain valve.
