A/C REFRIGERANT CAPACITY INFORMATION

1990 Axxess
The refrigerant capacity specification has been changed for the Axxess. The information below shows the previous and new R-12 charge volume.
Previous R-12 Charge Amount New R-12 Charge Amount
2.0 - 2.4 lb. 1.9 - 2.1 lb.
(0.9 - 1.1 kg.) (0.85 - 0.95 kg.)
The proper R-12 charge volume is specified on the underhood A/C label, therefore, please refer to this label to determine the proper charge amount when servicing the air conditioner.
In the event that the underhood label is missing, check for the presence of a blue dot on the high and low pressure hoses as shown in the illustration below. If the blue dots are present, the system should be charged with the new R-12 volume specirication. If the blue dots are not present, use the previous R-12 charge specification.
1986.5-1990 Truck/Pathfinder
The R-12 charge volume specification shown on the underhood label is incorrect on the following vehicles:
^ All 1986.5-1989 D21/WD21 vehicles (Factory, Port and Dealer installed A/C)
^ Early production 1990 D21 vehicles with Factory installed A/C
The correct R-12 charge amount for all D21/WD21 vehicles is:
1.8 - 2.0 lb. (0.8 - 0.9 kg.)
The 1986.5 and 1987 D21/WD21 Service Manuals show incorrect R-12 charge volume specification. The 1988 to 1990 D21/WD21 Service Manuals show the correct R-12 charge volume specification.
