Step 1: Tire Pressure and Front End Alignment
BRAKE PULL DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURENOTE: This bulletin updates previously issued Technical Bulletin BR87-002/TB87-046 by including corrected tire pressures and additional Applied Model information. Make note of this bulletin on page BR-1 in your copy of the 1987 Technical Bulletin Book.
APPLIED MODELS: 1986.5-1990 Truck, 1987-1990 Pathfinder
SERVICE INFORMATION
If a 1986.5-1990 Truck or a 1987-1990 Pathfinder vehicle exhibits a mild pull during braking, use the following service procedure to diagnose and correct this condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE OUTLINE
Step 1: ^ Check and adjust pressure in all 4 tires.
^ Check and adjust front end alignment.
^ Road test.
Step 2: ^ Adjust parking brake system.
^ Road test.
Step 3:. ^ Perform brake rotor and pad break-in procedure.
^ Road test.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Step 1: Tire pressure and Front End Alignment - Unequal tire pressures from side-to-side can contribute to brake pull. Set tire pressures as indicated on the following page:
The following alignment conditions can contribute to brake pull:
^ Unequal caster, side-to-side
^ Out of specification, or unequal H-dimension, side-to-side
^ Toe out
Set the front end alignment as listed below:
TEST NOTE:
When adjusting the front suspension, it is very important to set all the adjustments within specification. For best results, the H-dimension and caster should be adjusted to the same value on both sides. When adjusting the H-dimension, always tighten the anchor arm nut for a uniform setting on each side.
Road test the vehicle. If brake pull still exists, proceed to Step 2.
