- Measure clearance between valve stem and guide. Replace parts as needed. To ease removal, heat cylinder head to 300-320°F (150-160°C). Using press and guide remover, force guide from cylinder head from combustion chamber side. With head at room temperature, ream valve guide bore to .4400-.4408" (11.175-11.196 mm) for intake and .4793-4802" (12.175-12.196 mm) for exhaust.
- Reheat head. Press service guide into cylinder head. Guide should extend from spring side of cylinder head .520-.528" (13.2-13.4 mm). Measurement is taken from outer valve spring seat surface of cylinder head. Ream valve guide to .2756-.2763" (7.000-7.018 mm) for intake and .3150-.3154" (8.000-8.011 mm) for exhaust.
