Piston Pin Replacement

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1988 Nissan 300ZX. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Using press and adapters, remove pin from piston and rod. Check pin and bores for signs of sticking, excessive wear or damage. Replace parts as necessary.
  2. If wear exceeds specification, replace both piston and pin. Pin must fit into piston with light thumb pressure at room temperature.
  3. Piston pin is a press fit into rod. If rod is replaced, ensure new rod is within .25 oz. (7 g) of defective rod. Ensure rod-to-piston positioning is correct. See Figure.
