Crankshaft Service: Inspection

  1. Check crankshaft main journals and connecting rod journals for scoring, wear or cracks. Taper and out-of-round of journals must not exceed .0002" (.006 mm).
  2. Set dial indicator pointer at center main journal of crankshaft. If runout exceeds .004" (.10 mm), replace crankshaft.
