TRANSMISSION ALIGNMENT, 1986.5 TRUCK


APPLIED MODEL: 1986.5 D21 Truck with VG30i engine and manual transmission (FS5R30A)

SERVICE INFORMATION

When re-installing the FS5R30A manual transmission in a 1986.5 D21 Truck (VG30i engine) after servicing, make sure to properly align the transmission with the engine block. If they are not aligned properly, the transmission may come out of 4th gear upon deceleration.

If this occurs, remove the transmission and inspect both the transmission alignment dowels in the engine block and the alignment holes in the transmission case for any damage (flattened dowels or elongated alignment holes in the transmission case.) Replace the transmission case and/or dowels if any damage is observed.
Install the transmission making sure to align it properly. Use the torques and bolt sequences shown when tightening the bolts to the engine block.
^ A bolts = 29-36 ft.lbs. (4.0-5.0 kg-m)

^ B bolts = 22-29 ft.lbs. (3.0-4.0 kg-m)
