SERVICE INFORMATION

Some 1986.5 D21 Trucks equipped with the VG30i engine and manual transmission have a shifter guide plate that can be improperly installed backwards. If installed backwards, the transmission will not fully engage 2nd, 4th and reverse gears and may not stay in one or more of these gears. When reassembling the transmission after servicing, make sure the guide plate is installed correctly (see illustration below).
