SERVICE INFORMATION
The following procedure outlines the installation procedure for the new, liquid-type oil pan gasket:
1. Remove oil pan bolts in the order shown below.
2. Lightly tap Seal Cutter (KV10111100) or suitable tool between oil pan and cylinder block.
CAUTION:
^ DO NOT drive seal cutter into the oil pump or rear oil seal retainer; the aluminum mating face could be damaged.
^ DO NOT use a screwdriver as a substitute for seal cutter; the oil flange could be damaged.
3. Tap the seal cutter along the side of the oil pan to separate the oil pan from the cylinder block.
4. Use a gasket scraper to remove all debris and old gasket material from the oil pan and cylinder block mating surfaces. Both surfaces must be completely cleaned.
5. Apply RTV sealant to the oil pump gasket and rear oil seal retainer as shown.
6. Cut the tip of the liquid gasket tube (P/N 999MP-A7007) as shown to obtain a bead width of 3.5 to 4.5 mm (0.138 to 0.177 in.).
7. Apply a continuous bead of liquid gasket along the groove of the oil pan mating surface.
NOTE: In the area near each bolt hole, apply the liquid gasket bead as shown below. The bead should be run on the inner side of the oil pan mating surface as shown.
8. Position oil pan on block WITHIN 5 MINUTES after applying the liquid gasket.
9. Install and tighten oil pan bolts IN REVERSE of the removal order shown in step 1).
10. WAIT AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE FILLING CRANKCASE WITH OIL.
NOTE: Liquid gasket should not be used on engines originally equipped with a rubber gasket.
