Starting - Hard Start Condition

SERVICE INFORMATION

Some 1986.5 D21 Trucks equipped with Z24i and VG30i engines may exhibit a "hard start" condition due to improperly assembled electrical connectors and/or poor engine electrical grounds. This Technical Bulletin identifies some of the connectors and grounds that may cause this condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Inspect the following connectors and/or grounds for correct assembly and tight connection:

A. MAIN HARNESS (ENGINE COMPARTMENT) - Inspect connectors 17M, 70M and grounds 34M, 35M, 60M and 78M (Figure 1).

MAIN HARNESS:

B. MAIN HARNESS (ECCS CONTROL UNIT) - Inspect the ECCS connection 262M, located under the drivers seat (Figure 2).

CHASSIS AND TAIL HARNESS:

C. CHASSIS AND TAIL HARNESS - Inspect the fuel tank guage/pump unit connector 2C located under the right rear (passenger side) wheel well (Figure 3).
