SERVICE INFORMATION

Service data for front suspension alignment on 1986.5-87 Trucks and 1987 Pathfinders has been divided into specifications for "checking" and "setting".

The "checking" specifications are shown as a range. If the vehicle measurements are within the range shown, no further adjustments are necessary. This range is slightly wider than the previous specifications.

If the measurements are outside the range, the adjustment should be reset to the "setting" specification. The "setting" specification is the same as the former specification.

This bulletin clarifies the procedure for adjusting the front end alignment of the applied vehicles.


ALIGNMENT PROCEDURE:

Whenever the front suspension is adjusted, the following sequence must be followed:

1. Check and adjust pressure in all four tires. Set to pressures shown in the chart on page FA-3.

2. Bounce the front of the vehicle four or five times to ensure that the vehicle is at a normal ride height.





3. Measure vehicle ride height (Dimension "H") as shown in the illustrations. Refer to the chart below for specifications. If measurements are outside specified range, ride height must be adjusted before proceeding with any other alignment measurements. Changing the ride height affects camber, caster, and toe measurements.


When adjusting the torsion bars, the final position of the anchor bolts must be reached while tightening the nut. If Dimension "H" is too high, back off the anchor nut at least two full turns below the ride height setting. Next, tighten the anchor nut until the correct setting is achieved.

4. Measure caster, camber, and total toe. If the measurements are out of the "service checking" range, adjust as close as possible to the "service setting". Please note there is a new specification for side-to-side caster difference and camber difference (45' or less).
