Power Unit Harness Check

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1985 Nissan Maxima and 1985 Nissan 200SX. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect connector between power unit and display unit. Connect AC/DC voltmeter probes to Blue connector of diagnostic jumper lead with positive (+) probe to Red harness side and negative (-) probe to Black harness side. See Fig 1 .

  2. Install check terminals (two 1-pin terminals) of jumper lead into terminals of power unit. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. Check voltage at each terminals as follows:
  3. Using DC voltmeter, measure voltage between terminal VDL (Red) and GND (Black). See Fig 2 . Reading should be 12 volts. This reading is for tachometer and boost gauge.
  4. Using a DC voltmeter, measure voltage between terminal VDD (Red) and GND (Black). Reading should be 5 volts. This reading is for display unit. Measure voltage between terminal VCC (Red) and GND (Black). Reading should be 5 volts. This reading is for odometer.
  5. Using a DC voltmeter, measure voltage between terminal GND (Red) and VDM (Black). Reading should be approximately 19 volts. This reading is for speedometer, multiple gauge and trip meter.
  6. Using an AC voltmeter, measure voltage between terminal F1 (Red) and F1 (Black). Reading should be about 3 volts (AC). This reading is for speedometer.
  7. Using an AC voltmeter, measure voltage between terminal F2 (Red) and F2 (Black). Reading should be approximately 3 volts (AC). This reading is for fuel gauge and voltmeter.
  8. Using an AC voltmeter, measure voltage between terminal F3 (Red) and F3 (Black). Reading should be approximately 3 volts (AC). This reading is for water temperature and oil pressure gauges.
  9. Using an AC voltmeter, measure voltage between terminal F4 (Red) and F4 (Black). Reading should be approximately 3 volts (AC). This reading is for trip meter.
