Illumination Control Fails To Operate

- Check light switch circuit. To do so, turn ignition switch to "OFF" position. Remove instrument cluster. Disconnect harness connector from meter control unit. Turn light switch to first position. Measure voltage between terminal No. 2 (+) and No. 15 (-). See Figure . If results are not okay, check harness between meter control unit and light switch. If results are okay, proceed to step 2).
- Check illumination control circuit. To do so, disconnect harness connector from meter control unit. Turn light switch to first position and measure voltage between terminal No. 1 (+) and No. 15 (-). Reading should be between 5 and 9 volts. If results are okay, replace meter control unit. If results are not okay, proceed to step 3).
- Check if harness between meter control unit and time control unit is short circuited. If harness checks out bad, replace meter control unit and time control unit, and repair harness. If harness checks out okay, time control system should be checked for illumination control.
