Rocker Arm & Shaft Assembly: Inspection

  1. Thoroughly clean components. Inspect rocker arm bore and shaft surface for signs of wear or seizure. Check valve and camshaft end contact surface of rocker arm for excessive wear or scuffing.
  2. If valve contact surface is worn, resurface with grinder. If camshaft contact surface is worn, replace rocker arm and/or camshaft.
  3. Check clearance between rocker arm and rocker shaft. Standard shaft-to-arm clearance is .0003-.0019" (.007-.049 mm). If worn beyond specifications, replace rocker arm and/or shaft.
