Piston & Rod Assembly: Inspection

  1. Check connecting rod for bend or twist using rod aligner tool. Bend and twist limit is .004" (.10 mm) or less in 3.94" (100 mm) of length.
  2. Install rod, with bearings, on crank pin. Measure rod side thrust clearance. Play at big end must be .012" (.30 mm) or less. Replace rod if not to specifications.
NOTE: If connecting rod is replaced, ensure weight difference between rods is no more than .25 oz. (7 grams).
