1.8L 4-CYL Turbo - VIN [C] & 2.0L 4-CYL - VINS [H,P]: Overhaul: Crankshaft: Installation

  1. Install main bearing halves into engine block. Ensure that all bearings are on correct journal. Journal No. 3 requires a thrust bearing. Upper and lower bearings are not interchangeable.
  2. Apply oil to main bearing surface and install crankshaft. Install main bearing caps so numbers on bearing caps are in a row, starting from front of engine. Tighten main bearing caps in 2 or 3 stages, starting at center bearing and working outward. Ensure crankshaft rotates smoothly.
  3. Check crankshaft end play. See THRUST BEARING ALIGNMENT  . Install rear oil seal retainer. Reverse removal procedure to complete installation.
