Front Disc Brake Rotor: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel and tire. Remove caliper assembly, and hang from frame with wire. DO NOT  disconnect hydraulic line. Remove cotter pin. Hold hub with tool, and loosen hub nut from drive shaft. Install wheel nuts to avoid damage to studs.
  2. Separate wheel hub and rotor from drive shaft end using Removers (KV40101000 and ST36230000). Remove hub nut once hub and rotor assembly has broken loose from drive shaft. Remove bolts holding wheel hub to rotor. Remove outer grease seal from knuckle and discard. Replace grease seal even if it appears good.
NOTE: During hub removal, do not tap drive shaft or damage will result.
  3. When replacing wheel bearings with grease seal, knuckle must be removed. Once hub and rotor assembly is installed, check axle end play. Replace spacer in knuckle if any end play is present or bearing preload is lower than specification. Bearing preload, as measured at wheel hub stud should be 3.1-10.8 lb. (1.4-4.9 kg).
