Diagnostic Procedure

  1. STEP 1. Check for transaxle control cable installation 

    Check the transaxle control cable for installation condition.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 2.
    2. NO:  Install the transaxle control cable properly. (Refer to TRANSMISSION CONTROL .)
  2. STEP 2. Transaxle control cable operation check 
    1. Disconnect the connection of the transaxle assembly and the transaxle control cable.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and depress the brake pedal. Check that the transaxle control cable works when shift lever is moved to PøR.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 5.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 3.
  3. STEP 3. Retest the system. 

    Q: Does a malfunction take place again? 

    1. YES:  Replace the transaxle control cable. (Refer to TRANSMISSION CONTROL .) Then, go to Step 4.
    2. NO:  Intermittent malfunction. (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION .)
  4. STEP 4. Retest the system. 

    Q: Does a malfunction take place again? 

    1. YES:  Replace the shift lever assembly. (Refer to >> A << TRANSAXLE CONTROL CABLE (TRANSAXLE SIDE/SHIFT LEVER SIDE) INSTALLATION .)
    2. NO:  This diagnosis is complete.
  5. STEP 5. Retest the system. 

    Q: Does a malfunction take place again? 

    1. YES:  Replace the transaxle assembly. (Refer to << B >> TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR REMOVAL
    2. NO:  Intermittent malfunction. (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION .)
