Inspection Procedure 6: When the Cruise Control ON/OFF Switch is Turned ON, the Cruise Control Indicator Light does not Illuminate < standard meter > or the Cruise Control Display Screen is not Displayed < high contrast meter > (However, the Cruise Control System is Normal): Diagnosis

CAUTION:

If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect diagnostic trouble code may be stored. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Before replacing the ECU, ensure that the CAN bus lines is normal.

STEP 1. Diagnose the CAN bus line.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
1. Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "HOW TO CONNECT THE SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-III) ."
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
3. Diagnose the CAN bus line. (Refer to EXPLANATION ABOUT THE SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-III) CAN BUS DIAGNOSTICS )
4. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Q: Is the check result satisfactory?
1. YES: Go to Step 2.
2. NO: Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to CAN BUS DIAGNOSTIC TABLE ). Then go to Step 6.
STEP 2. Check the MFI system diagnostic trouble code.
Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), perform MFI system diagnostic trouble code (Refer to DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION < 2.4L ENGINE >, DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION < 3.0L ENGINE >).

Q: Is diagnostic trouble code No. U0141 stored?
1. YES: Repair the MFI system (Refer to CODE NO. U0141: ETACS-ECU TIME-OUT < 2.4L ENGINE >, CODE NO. U0141: ETACS-ECU TIME-OUT < 3.0L ENGINE >). Then go to Step 6.
2. NO: Go to Step 3.
STEP 3. Check the ETACS system diagnostic trouble code.
Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), perform ETACS system diagnostic trouble code (Refer to DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION ).

Q: Is diagnostic trouble code No. U0155 stored?
1. YES: Repair the ETACS system (Refer to CODE NO. U0155: COMBINATION METER-ECU CAN COMMUNICATION TIMEOUT ). Then go to Step 6.
2. NO: Go to Step 4.
STEP 4. Check the combination meter system special function.
Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), check the combination meter system special function (Refer to SPECIAL FUNCTION TABLE ).
- Item 2: LCD (AUTO) < High contrast meter >
- Item 6: Indicator (AUTO) < Standard meter >
Q: Is the check result normal?
1. YES: Go to Step 5.
2. NO: Repair the combination meter system (Refer to TROUBLE SYMPTOM CHART ). Then go to Step 6.
STEP 5. Check the symptom.
Q: When the cruise control ON/OFF switch is turned ON, is the cruise control indicator light illuminated < standard meter > or the cruise control display screen displayed < high contrast meter >?
1. YES: It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION ).
2. NO: Replace the ECM (Refer to ECM < 2.4L ENGINE >, ECM < 3.0L ENGINE >). Then go to Step 6.
STEP 6. Check the symptom.
Q: When the cruise control ON/OFF switch is turned ON, is the cruise control indicator light illuminated < standard meter > or the cruise control display screen displayed < high contrast meter >?
1. YES: The procedure is complete.
2. NO: Return to Step 1.
