Inspection Procedure 4: The SRS warning light does not go out: Diagnosis

STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), diagnose the CAN bus line.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
1. Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "HOW TO CONNECT THE SCAN TOOL ."
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
3. Diagnose the CAN bus line.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Q: Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?
1. YES: Go to Step 2.
2. NO: Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to DIAGNOSIS ).
STEP 2. Recheck of the SRS warning light
1. Connect the negative battery terminal.
2. Ignition switch: ON
Q: Does the SRS warning light illuminate for approximately 6 to 8 seconds and then go out after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position?
1. YES: Intermittent malfunction (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION ).
2. NO: Go to Step 3.
STEP 3. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), actuator test.
Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III) to perform the combination meter actuator tests.

Item No. 07: Indicator1

Q: Does the SRS warning light turn on and off normally?
1. YES: Go to Step 4.
2. NO: Replace the combination meter (Refer to COMBINATION METER ).
STEP 4. Check for diagnostic trouble code.
After erasing the DTC memory, check the DTC.

Q: Is the DTC stored?
1. YES: Troubleshoot for the relevant DTC (Refer to CHECK CHART FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES ).
2. NO: Go to Step 5.
STEP 5. Recheck of the SRS warning light
Q: Does the light stay ON?
1. YES: Replace the SRS-ECU (Refer to SRS CONTROL UNIT (SRS-ECU) ).
2. NO: This diagnosis is complete.
