Inspection Procedure 6: Driver's door lock/unlock switch does not work: Diagnosis
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- STEP 1. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), read the diagnostic trouble code.
Check if any DTC is stored in the KOS-ECU.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the power supply mode of the engine switch to the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).- Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "HOW TO CONNECT SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-III) ."
- Turn the power supply mode of the engine switch to ON.
- Check if DTC is stored.
- Turn the power supply mode of the engine switch to OFF.
Q: Is the DTC stored?
- YES: Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART .
- NO: Go to Step 2.
- STEP 2. Lock/unlock switch (driver's side) check
Check that the lock/unlock switch (driver's side) is normal (Refer to INSPECTION ).
Q: Is the check result normal?
- YES: Go to Step 3.
- NO: Replace the lock/unlock switch (driver's side).
- STEP 3. Resistance measurement at lock/unlock switch (driver's side) connector (ground line)
- Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
- Measure the resistance between the lock/unlock switch (driver's side) connector (ground line) and body ground.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
Q: Is the check result normal?
- YES: Go to Step 5.
- NO: Go to Step 4.
- STEP 4. Check of open circuit in ground line between the lock/unlock switch (driver's side) connector and the body ground. NOTE: Before the wiring harness check, check the intermediate connectors, and repair if necessary.
Q: Is the check result normal?
- YES: Go to Step 6.
- NO: Repair the wiring harness.
- STEP 5. Check of short to power supply, short to ground, and open circuit in DRRQ line between the KOS-ECU connector and the lock/unlock switch (driver's side) connector. NOTE: Before the wiring harness check, check the intermediate connectors, and repair if necessary.
Q: Is the check result normal?
- YES: Go to Step 6.
- NO: Repair the wiring harness.
- STEP 6. KOS communication test
Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), perform the antenna communication test to check that the outside transmission antenna assembly (driver's side) communicates normally (Refer to ON-VEHICLE SERVICE < KOS-ECU > ).
Q: Is the check result normal?
- YES: Go to Step 7.
- NO: Perform troubleshooting for the diagnostic trouble code No. B240A (Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART ).
- STEP 7. Check of the troubles
Operate the lock/unlock switch (driver's side) and check that the doors can be locked and unlocked.
Q: Is the check result normal?
- YES: Intermittent malfunction is suspected (Refer to HOW TO DEAL WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION ).
- NO: Replace KOS-ECU and register the ID codes (Refer to ON-VEHICLE SERVICE < KOS-ECU > ).
