Inspection Procedure 4: When the speech switch is pressed, the voice information is not output. < Vehicles with radio and CD player >: Diagnosis

Required Special Tools: 

  1. STEP 1. Check the diagnosis mode 

    Check if the hands free module can be switched to the diagnosis mode. (Refer to DIAGNOSIS MODE < VEHICLES WITH 1CD AUDIO >  or DIAGNOSIS MODE < VEHICLES WITH DISPLAY AUDIO > .)

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

  2. STEP 2. Operation check of the steering wheel audio remote control switch 

    Check that the radio and CD player can be operated by the steering wheel audio remote control switch.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    • YES:  Go to Step 3.
    • NO:  Troubleshoot the steering wheel audio remote control switch. (Refer to SYMPTOM PROCEDURES .)
  3. STEP 3. Check the steering wheel voice control switch. 

    Check the continuity of the steering wheel voice control switch. (Refer to STEERING WHEEL VOICE CONTROL SWITCH INSPECTION .)

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    • YES:  Go to Step 4.
    • NO:  Replace the steering wheel voice control switch.
  4. STEP 4. Check the steering wheel audio remote control switch. 

    Check the continuity of the steering wheel audio remote control switch. (Refer to STEERING WHEEL AUDIO REMOTE CONTROL SWITCH INSPECTION .)

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    • YES:  Go to Step 5.
    • NO:  Replace the steering wheel audio remote control switch.
  5. STEP 5. Check the wiring harness between steering wheel audio remote control switch connector C-202 (terminal 3) and steering wheel voice control switch connector C-209 (terminal 3). 
    • Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit.

    Q: Is the wiring harness between steering wheel audio remote control switch connector C-202 (terminal 3) and steering wheel voice control switch connector C-209 (terminal 3) in good condition? 

    • YES:  Go to Step 6.
    • NO:  The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary.
  6. STEP 6. Check clock spring connector C-204 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector 

    Q: Is clock spring connector C-204 in good condition? 

  7. STEP 7. Check the harness wire between clock spring connector C-204 (terminal 4) and steering wheel voice control switch connector C-209 (terminal 2). 
    • Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit.

    Q: Is the wiring harness between clock spring connector C-204 (terminal 4) and steering wheel voice control switch connector C-209 (terminal 2) in good condition? 

    • YES:  Go to Step 8.
    • NO:  The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary.
  8. STEP 8. Temporarily replace the hands free module, and check the trouble symptom. 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    • YES:  Replace the hands free module.
    • NO:  Replace the radio and CD player.
