Inspection Procedure 12: ETACS-ECU does not receive any signal from the hood latch switch: Diagnosis

Required Special Tools: 

  1. STEP 1. Check hood latch switch connector A-65 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. 

    Q: Is hood latch switch connector A-65 in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 2.
    2. NO:  Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . Check that the input signal of hood switch is normal.
  2. STEP 2. Check the hood latch switch. 

    Remove the hood latch switch. Then check continuity between the switch terminals.

    Switch position Tester connection Specified condition
    Released 1 - 2 Less than 2 ohms
    Pressed 1 - 2 Open circuit

    Q: Is the hood latch switch in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 3.
    2. NO:  Replace the hood latch switch. Check that the input signal of hood latch switch is normal.
  3. STEP 3. Check the ground circuit to the hood latch switch. Test at hood latch switch connector A-65. 
    1. Disconnect hood latch switch connector A-65 and measure the resistance available at the wiring harness side of the connector.
    2. Measure the resistance value between terminal 2 and ground.
      • The resistance should equal 2 ohms or less.

    Q: Is the measured resistance 2 ohms or less? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 5.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 4.

  4. STEP 4. Check the wiring harness between hood latch switch connector A-65 (terminal 2) and ground. 

    Check the ground wires for open circuit.

    Q: Is the wiring harness between hood latch switch connector A-65 (terminal 2) and the ground in good condition? 

    1. YES:  No action is necessary and testing is complete.
    2. NO:  The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary. Check that the input signal of hood switch is normal.
  5. STEP 5. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-312 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. 

    Q: Is ETACS-ECU connector C-312 in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 6.
    2. NO:  Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . Check that the input signal of hood switch is normal.
  6. STEP 6. Check the wiring harness between hood latch switch connector A-65 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-312 (terminal 12). 

    Check the input lines for open circuit and short circuit.

    Q: Is the wiring harness between hood latch switch connector A-65 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-312 (terminal 12) in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Replace the ETACS-ECU. Check that the input signal of hood latch switch is normal.
    2. NO:  The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary. Check that the input signal of hood switch is normal.
