INSPECTION PROCEDURE 3: No Sound from One Speaker. < Vehicles with Amplifier >: Diagnosis

  1. STEP 1. Check to see which speaker the sound is not output from. 

    Use the speaker test to determine which speaker does not sound.

    Q: Which speaker is not working? 

    1. Door speaker (LH):  Go to Step 2.
    2. Door speaker (RH):  Go to  Step 5.
    3. Rear speaker (LH):  Go to  Step 8.
    4. Rear speaker (RH):  Go to  Step 11.
    5. Tweeter (LH):  Go to  Step 14.
    6. Tweeter (RH):  Go to  Step 17.
    7. Woofer:  Go to  Step 20.
  2. STEP 2. Check the door speaker (LH). 
    1. Remove the door speaker (LH). Refer to SPEAKER  .
    2. Check that the door speaker (LH) generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the door speaker (LH) terminal.

    Q: Is the door speaker (LH) generating noise? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 3.
    2. NO:  Replace the door speaker (LH). The door speaker (LH) should sound.

  3. STEP 3. Check door speaker (LH) connector E-06 and audio amplifier connector D-33 for damage. 

    Q: Are harness connectors E-06 and D-33 in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 4.
    2. NO:  Repair or replace the connector. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The door speaker (LH) should sound.

  4. STEP 4. Check the wiring harness between door speaker (LH) connector E-06 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 13 and 14.)

    NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-17. If intermediate connector C-17 are damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the wiring harness between door speaker (LH) connector E-06 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 13 and 14) in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Repair or replace the audio amplifier. The door speaker (LH) should sound.
    2. NO:  Repair the wiring harness. The door speaker (LH) should sound.

  5. STEP 5. Check the door speaker (RH). 
    1. Remove the door speaker (RH). Refer to SPEAKER  .
    2. Check that the door speaker (RH) generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the door speaker (RH) terminal.

    Q: Is the door speaker (RH) generating noise? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 6.
    2. NO:  Replace the door speaker (RH). The door speaker (RH) should sound.

  6. STEP 6. Check door speaker (RH) connector E-13 and audio amplifier connector D-33 for damage. 

    Q: Are harness connectors E-13 and D-33 in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 7.
    2. NO:  Repair or replace the connector. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The door speaker (RH) should sound.

  7. STEP 7. Check the wiring harness between door speaker (RH) connector E-13 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 5 and 15.)

    NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-110. If intermediate connector C-110 are damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the wiring harness between door speaker (RH) connector E-13 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 5 and 15) in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Repair or replace the audio amplifier. The door speaker (RH) should sound.
    2. NO:  Repair the wiring harness. The door speaker (RH) should sound.

  8. STEP 8. Check the rear speaker (LH). 
    1. Remove the rear speaker (LH). Refer to SPEAKER  .
    2. Check that the rear speaker (LH) generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the rear speaker (LH) terminal.

    Q: Is the rear speaker (LH) generating noise? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 9.
    2. NO:  Replace the rear speaker (LH). The rear speaker (LH) should sound.

  9. STEP 9. Check rear speaker (LH) connector F-01 and audio amplifier connector D-33 for damage. 

    Q: Are harness connectors F-01 and D-33 in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 10.
    2. NO:  Repair or replace the connector. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The rear speaker (LH) should sound.

  10. STEP 10. Check the wiring harness between rear speaker (LH) connector F-01 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 2 and 10.)

    NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-127. If intermediate connector C-127 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the wiring harness between the rear speaker (LH) connector F-01 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 2 and 10) in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Repair or replace the audio amplifier. The rear speaker (LH) should sound.
    2. NO:  Repair the wiring harness. The rear speaker (LH) should sound.

  11. STEP 11. Check the rear speaker (RH). 
    1. Remove the rear speaker (RH). Refer to SPEAKER  .
    2. Check that the rear speaker (RH) generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the rear speaker (RH) terminal.

    Q: Is the rear speaker (RH) generating noise? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 12.
    2. NO:  Replace the rear speaker (RH). The rear speaker (RH) should sound.

  12. STEP 12. Check rear speaker (RH) connector F-07 and audio amplifier connector D-33 for damage. 

    Q: Are harness connectors F-07 and D-33 in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 13.
    2. NO:  Repair or replace the connector. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The rear speaker (RH) should sound.

  13. STEP 13. Check the wiring harness between rear speaker (RH) connector F-07 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 9 and 1.)

    NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-112. If intermediate connector C-112 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the wiring harness between rear speaker (RH) connector F-07 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 9 and 1) in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Repair or replace the audio amplifier. The rear speaker (RH) should sound.
    2. NO:  Repair the wiring harness. The rear speaker (RH) should sound.

  14. STEP 14. Check the tweeter (LH). 
    1. Remove the tweeter (LH).
    2. Check that the tweeter (LH) generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the tweeter (LH) terminal.

    Q: Is the tweeter (LH) generating noise? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 15.
    2. NO:  Replace the tweeter (LH). The tweeter (LH) should sound.
  15. STEP 15 Check tweeter (LH) connector D-29 and audio amplifier connector D-33 for damage. 

    Q: Are harness connectors D-29 and D-33 in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 16.
    2. NO:  Repair or replace them. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The tweeter (LH) should sound.

  16. STEP 16. Check the harness wires between tweeter (LH) connector D-29 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 11 and 3.)

    NOTE: After inspecting intermediate connector C-18, inspect the wire. If intermediate connector C-18 are damaged, repair or replace it. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the harness wires between tweeter (LH) connector D-29 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 11 and 3) in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Repair or replace the audio amplifier. The tweeter (LH) should sound.
    2. NO:  Repair them. The tweeter (LH) should sound.

  17. STEP 17. Check the tweeter (RH). 
    1. Remove the tweeter (RH).
    2. Check that the tweeter (RH) generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the speaker terminal.

    Q: Is the tweeter (RH) generating noise? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 18.
    2. NO:  Replace the tweeter (RH). The tweeter (RH) should sound.
  18. STEP 18. Check tweeter (RH) connector D-30 and audio amplifier connector D-33 for damage. 

    Q: Are harness connectors D-30 and D-33 in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 19.
    2. NO:  Repair or replace them. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The tweeter (RH) should sound.

  19. STEP 19. Check the harness wires between tweeter (RH) connector D-30 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 12 and 4.)

    NOTE: After inspecting intermediate connector C-109, inspect the wire. If intermediate connector C-109 are damaged, repair or replace it. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the harness wires between tweeter (RH) connector D-30 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 12 and 4) in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Repair or replace the audio amplifier. The tweeter (RH) should sound.
    2. NO:  Repair them. The tweeter (RH) should sound.

  20. STEP 20. Check the woofer. 
    1. Remove the woofer. Refer to SPEAKER  .
    2. Check that the woofer generates noise when a five-volt voltage is applied on the woofer terminal.

    Q: Is the woofer generating noise? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 21.
    2. NO:  Replace the woofer. The woofer should sound.

  21. STEP 21. Check woofer connector F-17 and audio amplifier connector D-33 for damage. 

    Q: Are harness connectors F-17 and D-33 in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 22.
    2. NO:  Repair or replace the connector. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The woofer should sound.

  22. STEP 22. Check the wiring harness between woofer connector F-17 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 8 and 18.)

    NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-112. If intermediate connector C-112 is damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .

    Q: Are the wiring harness between woofer connector F-17 (terminal 1 and 2) and audio amplifier connector D-33 (terminal 8 and 18) in good condition? 

    1. YES:  Repair or replace the audio amplifier. The woofer should sound.
    2. NO:  Repair the wiring harness. The woofer should sound.
