Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Check the engine system. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Is the inspection result good? If so, go to next step. If not, repair or replace the engine components as necessary.
  2. Check each brake and clutch. Perform the stall speed test. See STALL SPEED TEST  under PERFORMANCE TESTS. Check for the symptom. Is the symptom eliminated? If so, diagnosis is complete. If not, go to next step.
  3. Perform the hydraulic pressure test. See HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TESTS  under PERFORMANCE TESTS. Check for the symptom. Is the symptom eliminated? If so, diagnosis is complete. If not, go to next step.
  4. Check each brake system and each clutch system. Remove the valve body cover and valve body. See appropriate SERVICING article. Apply 15 psi of compressed air into the each brake oil orifice and clutch oil orifice of the transmission case. See Figure . Check if each brake and each clutch piston move and air pressure is maintained. Is the air pressure maintained? If so, diagnosis is complete. If not, go to next step.
  5. Remove the transmission. Check each brake system and clutch system. Check the facings for seizure and piston seal ring for damage and interference with retainer. Repair or replace faulty parts. See appropriate OVERHAUL article. Check for the symptom. Is the symptom eliminated? If so, diagnosis is complete. If not, go to next step.
  6. Possible faulty PCM exists. Replace the PCM if necessary. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Is the symptom eliminated? If so, diagnosis is complete. If not, go to step  1 .
