Test 3: Buzzer Does Not Sound
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ABS-ECU connector E-106. See Figure
. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ABS-ECU connector E-106 terminal No. 44 and ground. See Figure
. If buzzer sounds while measuring voltage, replace ABS-ECU. See ABS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ANTI-LOCK - MONTERO article. If buzzer does not sound, go to next step.
- Remove Hydraulic Brake Booster (HBB) buzzer. See BUZZER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect positive (+) battery voltage to buzzer terminal No. 1 and ground terminal No. 2. See Fig 1
. If buzzer sounds, go to next step. If buzzer does not sound, replace buzzer and retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between HBB buzzer connector E-107 terminal No. 1 (Red/Yellow wire) and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to step 6
.
- Inspect HBB buzzer connector E-107 for corroded or damaged terminals. Repair connector if necessary, then go to step 8
. If connector is okay, go to next step.
- Check Red/Yellow wire between HBB buzzer connector E-107 and junction block D-212 fuse No. 5 (10 amp). Check Blue/Red wire between junction block D-212 fuse No. 5 and ignition switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Repair wire if necessary, then go to step 8
.
- Inspect HBB buzzer connector E-107 and ABS-ECU connector E-106 for corroded or damaged terminals. Repair connectors as necessary, then go to step 8
. If connectors are okay, go to next step.
- Check Red/Blue wire between ABS-ECU connector E-106 and HBB buzzer E-107. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Repair wiring as necessary, then go to next step.
- Chock wheels, then start engine. After at least 120 seconds have elapsed, release parking brake lever, then depress brake pedal rapidly 15 to 20 times within 10 seconds. If HBB buzzer sounds, system is functioning properly. If buzzer does not sound, go to step 1
