Test 1: Brake Warning Light Does Not Illuminate After Ignition Is Turned On
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. If brake warning light turns on go to next step. If brake warning light does not turn on, go to step 5
.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ABS-ECU connector E-106. See Figure
. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If brake warning light turns on, replace ABS-ECU. See ABS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ANTI-LOCK - MONTERO article. Retest system for normal operation. If brake warning light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Disconnect instrument panel combination meter 11-pin connector D-03. Inspect ABS-ECU connector E-106 and combination meter D-03 connectors for damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connectors as necessary, then retest system for normal operation. If connectors are okay, go to next step.
- Check Violet/White wire between ABS-ECU and instrument panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Repair wiring as necessary then retest system for normal operation. If wiring is okay, and problem persists, replace combination meter. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Retests system for normal operation.
- Disconnect combination meter 11-pin connector D-03. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between terminal connector D-03 terminal No. 62 (Black/White wire) and ground. See Fig 1
. If measured voltage is 12 volts, reconnect connector and retest system for normal operation. If measured voltage is less than 12 volts, go to next step.
- Inspect combination meter connector D-03 for corroded or damaged terminals. Repair connector as necessary, then retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, go to next step.
- Check Black/White wire between combination meter connector D-03 and junction block D-210 fuse No. 6 (10 amp). Check Blue/Black wire between junction block D-208 and ignition switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Repair wiring as necessary, then retest system.
