"N" Range Indicator Method

NOTE: "N" range indicator will flash once per second if a transmission problem exists. If indicator light flashes twice per second, overheated transmission fluid is indicated. Allow transmission fluid to cool by idling engine with transmission in Park with engine hood open.

Turn ignition off. Using jumper wire, ground terminal No. 1 of Data Link Connector (DLC). See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Turn ignition on. Read DTCs by observing flash pattern of "N" range indicator located on instrument cluster. First series of flashes indicates first digit of DTC. Second series of flashes indicates second digit of DTC. Example: 2 flashes followed by a pause, and then 6 flashes indicates DTC 26.

If DTCs are present, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . Diagnose and repair as necessary. See DIAGNOSTIC TESTS  . After repairs, clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  . If no DTCs are present, attempt diagnosis by symptom. See SYMPTOM TESTS  .
