Test 2: Brake Warning Light Does Not Extinguish

  1. Disconnect ABS-ECU connector E-106. See Figure . If brake warning light extinguishes replace ABS-ECU. See ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ABS ECU) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ANTI-LOCK BRAKES - MONTERO article. If brake warning light does not extinguish, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect combination meter 11-pin connector D-03. Inspect combination meter D-03 and ABS-ECU E-106 connectors fro corroded or damaged connectors. Repair as necessary, then retest system. If connectors are okay, and problem persists, go to next step.
  3. Check Violet/White wire between ABS-ECU and combination meter connector D-03. Repair wiring as necessary then retest system. If wiring is okay, and problem persists, replace combination meter. See INSTRUMENT PANELS - MONTERO & MONTERO SPORT article. Retest system for normal operation.
