Test No. 4: Temperature Gauge Does Not Work

  1. Check speedometer, if speedometer is not operating normally, refer to SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK  . If speedometer is working normally, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect engine coolant temperature sensor connector. Connect DVOM between ground and engine coolant temperature sensor harness side connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Pink wire) on Eclipse or (Black/Red wire) on Galant. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is less than 9 volts, check engine temperature sensor connector and harness wiring. Repair or replace as necessary. If voltage is 9 volts or more, go to SENSOR RESISTANCE TEST  under COMPONENT TESTS.
