Test No. 3: Fuel Gauge Does Not Work
- Check speedometer. If speedometer is not operating normally, refer to SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK . If speedometer is working normally go to next step.
- Disconnect fuel pump module connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 2 (Green/Red wire on Eclipse, Gray wire on Galant). See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If 5 volts are not present, go to next step. If 5 volts are present, check fuel pump module connector and wiring harness. Repair or replace as necessary.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Resistance should be 2 ohms or more. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, check fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL GAUGE TESTS under COMPONENT TESTS. If resistance is greater than 2 ohms, check fuel pump module connector and wiring harness. Repair or replace as necessary.
