Driver-Side Air Bag Module, Steering Wheel, & Clockspring

Remove driver-side air bag module and clockspring. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE & CLOCKSPRING under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for the following conditions and replace components as necessary.

Air Bag Module - Dented, cracked or deformed trim cover (side that faces driver) or inflator case (side that faces steering wheel).
Clockspring - Damaged protective tube, case, or gears.
Wiring Harnesses - Deformed, kinked, or otherwise damaged connectors, terminals or wires.
Steering Wheel - After installation, check for noise, binding, difficult operation, or excessive free play when turning steering wheel. If any of these conditions exists, replace steering wheel, steering column, and/or intermediate steering column joint as necessary.
