Removal (1.8L)

  1. Remove oil pan. See OIL PAN under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If necessary, remove oil filter bracket assembly. Remove oil pick-up assembly.
  2. Remove timing belt and sprockets. See TIMING BELT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove oil pump drive gear. Remove oil pump cover and gasket. Remove front cover from cylinder block.
  3. If front cover sticks to cylinder block, pry cover from cylinder block at screwdriver slot. Remove plug, spring and relief plunger. Remove silent shaft and crankshaft oil seal from front cover.
